About the Farm

Hello and Thank Ewe for visiting our site.

The Fusilier Sheep Company is a family business comprised of our elder statesman and grandfather Robert (Bob) Cooper and the production team that is Fusilier Sheep Co: Jason and Kelly Cooper along with their children Kjerstin, Robert, Brittany, Marie. 

We are a farm located along the central border between Alberta and Saskatchewan near the old town site of Fusilier.

We have had sheep on the farm for over 60 years. Although Bob's family has had sheep in one form or another since his Grandfather came to Canada in 1911. Over the years the farm has gone through many different breeds as ownership and management changed. Jason and Kelly took control of the sheep operation in the mid 90's and ran a mainly North Country based commercial flock. In the summer of 2015 we acquired our first registered ewes to run on our registered rams. We also added the Bluefaced Leicester sheep to the program in spring 2016.

We will be marketing our registered stock and any commercial gimmers as long yearlings as we would like to make sure that they are growing nicely and are of the quality that we would use on our stock.

We are aiming to breed traditional style sheep with good rates of gain and carcass qualities. With the Introduction of the Bluefaced Leicester's we are hoping over time to offer quality bred Mule ewes for sale to producers to help them to improve their carcass quality and grade. The Mule is the UK's #1 maternal dam and when bred to terminal meat sires produces the top quality carcass that the packers and retailers are looking for.

Although in the industry there is a push for total length of loin for the production of the most popular cut that is chops, we as consumers of our own product feel that there is a market for the rest of the animal as well. As such we are retaining a heavy North Country presence in our program as we enjoy a good lamb roast as do many of our past customers. The North Country Cheviot when crossed with the Bluefaced Leicester will give us the depth and weight as well as length of carcass to bring a top quality lamb to our consumers table.

In August 2021 we increased our family by 1, with Kjerstin's marriage to Landon.  They have purchased our commercial flock and now have an amazing starter flock of their own to grow.  They have called themselves Mud Lake Sheep, they are active on Facebook and on our Sale Page.  In the summer of 2022 we again have increase the family to add our first granddaughter (Kjerstin & Landon's first child) and then again in the fall of 2023 we added again another granddaughter and could not be happier or prouder.

In the fall of 2023 we sadly had to disperse our flock of NCC's and commercials.  Due to the rising feed costs and the drought we just could not keep everyone anymore.  We still have our BFL's though.

In the spring of 2024 we added Alpaca's the farm.  Lets see where this adventure will go.  Stay tuned for more info.
